President Muhammadu Buhari reacted to the heinous killings of 15 Nigerians in Burkina Faso on Monday, calling the incident an unwelcome development.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu, the president was informed of the tragic death of a number of Nigerian Muslim pilgrims on their way to Kaolak, Senegal, when the buses transporting them were attacked by gunmen in Burkina Faso.
According to the statement, the President offered his sympathies and prayed for the wellbeing of the other Nigerians who were stranded there.
Buhari asserted that the Nigerian embassy serves as a direct line of communication for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is eager to learn the results of the Burkinabe authorities’ inquiries into the killings.
“The government will make all efforts to bring back the surviving victims and the mortal remains of the deceased,” the president stated.
