Wike Not Responsible For Arrest Of Atiku’s Supporters – Rivers Govt

Wike and Atiku

The Rivers State Government has stated that Governor Nyesom Wike is not to blame for the arrest of Atiku Support Organisation members in the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, has been locked in a running battle with Wike and four other disgruntled PDP governors since winning the party’s ticket last year.

However, armed policemen arrested about 30 members of the Atiku support organization on Sunday during a meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

According to Victor Moses, the spokesman for the support organization, some of those arrested were state and local government leaders of the group.

He claimed that the police officers were acting on the orders of Governor Wike, who has refused to participate in PDP Presidential Campaign activities.

On Monday, Rivers State’s State Commissioner for Information, Chris Finebone, responded to the allegation, saying it is illogical for the state’s support group to link Wike to any issues it may have with the police.

According to Finebone, the allegation is one of many instances in which people find it convenient to point an accusing finger at a government in power.

Although the commissioner did not confirm the arrest of the organization’s members, he did state that if people violate the law, security agents must act to keep the peace.
