Official statistics show that the death toll from the earthquake that occurred in Turkey on Monday is now close to 7,000.
Over 38,000 people were hurt, and 6,957 people died, according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
According to the authority, there are now over 96,000 rescuers looking for survivors and victims, including international teams.
In addition to the fatalities in Turkey, the devastating earthquake on Monday also caused more than 2,000 fatalities in neighboring Syria.
The president’s office has announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit Kahramanmaras and Hatay. He will also go to Pazarcik, the epicentre of the quake.
He’s declared a three-month state of emergency in the 10 provinces worst affected.
