Premier League players will take a knee before starting the league games this weekend to show their opposition to racism.
The No Room for Racism campaign will be highlighted throughout Premier League games between February 11 and February 19, with Premier League players allowed to kneel before kickoff.
Premier League players and staff began kneeling before kickoff in games in June 2020 to show their support for the racial equality movement. However, that practice has been halted ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
In August, club captains decided to save the anti-racism gesture for special occasions rather than before every game.
[Taking a knee] is more than a gesture,” said former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi. “It says we must keep working to eradicate racism.
In addition to the season opener and Boxing Day games, Premier League players stood in solidarity with the No Room for Racism campaign during two weekends in October.
While seven former Premier League players, including Ameobi, will join the Player to Executive Pathways Scheme in November 2022. (PEPS).
The pilot project exposes former players from various racial and ethnic backgrounds to club operations in order to increase diversity in Premier League leadership positions.
