There is palpable fear, anger and anxiety in Nsukka, the University town in Enugu state on Friday morning as all the filling stations were said to have shot down.
WITHIN NIGERIA source Chijioke Obetta revealed that the closure was as a result of threat to these filling stations by unknown gun men on Thursday night.
“On Thursday night, that was yesterday, one of the attendants in one of the filling stations in town told us that their manager asked them not to open for business today.”
According to the source, ” the lady told me that unknown gun men threatened to set any filling stations selling above official pump price of N195 ablaze. Since morning no filling station has opened, throwing the entire six local governments into turmoil and hardship.”
One of the motorists, George Ugwu who spoke to WITHIN NIGERIA explained that ” as I speak with you now, only Total filling station is selling fuel at Nsukka right now. The queue is more than four kilometers. I don’t even know how much Total filling station is selling. All others remain closed. I had to buy black market at N600 per litre.”
However, all efforts to get the reaction of the chairman Independent Petroleum Markerters Association of Nigeria, IPMAN Mr. Chinedu Anyaso by our proved abortive as he was not picking his calls.
