President Muhammadu Buhari has urged all university administrators involved in the civic exercise to maintain professionalism ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The Nigerian leader gave the advice today while speaking at Bayero University Kano’s 36/37 combined convocation.
Buhari acknowledged that university staff had been effective in previous elections with various support services.
On the other hand, he charged the university professors to do more in the upcoming election, insisting that his administration would provide a level playing field for the smooth implementation of Nigeria’s electoral process.
He said;
I urge those who’ll be involved in the elections to play their roles with the usual dignity and transparency for which our academics are very well known.
There’s no doubt that the participation of academics and other staff of universities in our country’s general elections over the years has lent more credibility and respectability to Nigeria’s democratic processes.
The president, represented by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), also urged all Nigerians to work for the success of the elections in order to help move Nigeria forward.
Buhari also urged Nigerian universities to ensure that the quality of their graduates meets international standards.
