Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has stated that significant efforts must be made to elect solely religious leaders in the upcoming general elections.

Obi urged eligible voters to vote for candidates with character ahead of the general elections on February 25 (presidential and National/House of Representatives) and March 11 (governorship and State House of Assembly).

He advised Nigerians to vote only for candidates with the highest level of integrity who would not waste money on frivolous endeavours, emphasizing the importance of using public funds to meet the needs of the average person.

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate went on to exhort the Church to pray fervently for Nigeria’s deliverance from the devil and his agents, as well as for God’s will to triumph.

PlObi made the remarks on Friday at the Bayelsa State Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa, where the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) held its Biennial Conference 2023.

The two-term governor of Anambra state said:

I want to ask for your prayers for Nigeria as we gather here. I will ask for prayer points and the prayer points as we go for the coming elections are that may God Almighty ensure that Nigerians elect somebody with character, somebody who is competent, and somebody who will respect our religious rights.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel, Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and former Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson all attended the event.

While addressing the congregation, Delta state governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice-Presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa said he believed that with a gathering of men of faith, Nigeria would bounce back.

He added:

I believe that a great Nigeria is coming forth and God alone will set that path according to His will. We need to pray as a sacrifice as a body, we must bear that burden for our nation because it is our duty, if we don’t who else will bear it?

It is not just about the political class, it is about us, there are issues today and I must let you know two weeks from now, we are going to have elections but we must pray so that the elections will not be postponed.
