A 42-year-old man, Ekene Agha, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos, for allegedly defiling his co-worker’s three-year-old daughter.
The police arraigned Agha on two counts of indecent assault and defilement.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka, did not take the defendant’s plea.
Nwaka ordered Agha to be remanded in the correctional centre until March 15, for the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice.
The prosecutor, Inspector Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the offence was committed on January 6, 2023, around 3.30 pm at No 40 Ago Palace Road, Okota, Lagos State.
He said the offences were punishable under Sections 261 and 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The charge read in part, “That you, Ekene Agha, on January 6, 2023, around 3.30 pm at No 40 Ago Palace Road, Okota, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did indecently treat one (name withheld), a child of three years by inserting your finger into her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”
It was learnt that the suspect and the victim’s mother are co-workers.
