President Muhammadu Buhari has been praised for his decision to implement the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira redesign policy.
WITHIN NIGERIA learned that Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a member of the PDP Presidential Campaign Committee (PCC), praised the president for the policy on Friday.
The PDP chieftain urged Nigerians to remain calm and understand the policy, saying the president’s apology for the hardship caused by the policy in a Thursday broadcast was appropriate and acceptable.
Pearse said in a statement on Friday in Lagos that while Nigerians are angry about the hardship caused by the policy, it is a price the people must pay in order to have a better economy.
His commendation comes amid controversies and criticism surrounding the redesign policy’s implementation.
The president has faced criticism from a variety of quarters, including some governors from his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).
However, the PDP chieftain claimed in the statement that those who are most critical of the policy are known for vote buying.
Pearse stated that the suffering was only temporary and that, as the president stated, the discomfort would soon end.
He stated that;
But it is a price the people must pay for an improved economy, more credible elections and a more secure society.
This is a case of short-term pain for long-term gain. I noticed that the loudest protest is coming from politicians, who are well-known for vote-buying. As the president has indicated, there is an end in sight for this discomfort. This is less than two months away, which is immediately after the 2023 general elections.
