According to reports, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, maybe the biggest beneficiary of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls Tinubu’s claim on January 26 at the APC presidential campaign rally held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State, that fuel and cash scarcity were intended to sabotage his chances at the polls.
While speaking with a Punch correspondent, Tinubu’s loyalist stated that the APC flag bearer has won the hearts of Nigerians by openly condemning the Naira redesigned policy, which has caused untold hardships in Nigerians’ lives.
Senator Adesoji Akanbi, an APC chieftain, and Tinubu’s close associate noted that while other political parties and candidates required cash to run their campaigns and were equally affected by the CBN policy, the ruling party’s candidate may receive swing votes as a result.
Akanbi said;
“It might end up favouring Asiwaju that they were targeting. A lot of people are realising that it is all because of him. It is becoming a rhythm. There will be sympathy votes because people believe it is targeted at him, and the mere fact that he said it out that he was against the policy. That will be like a bonus for him.”
According to the APC chieftain, Tinubu’s impending victory was demonstrated by large crowds at recent presidential campaign rallies, despite the fact that cash shortages were frustrating the masses.
Another APC leader in the South-West geopolitical zone, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Tinubu would be “sold” to the electorate as the “lover of the masses” among the presidential candidates, going by his disposition to the “anti-people policies” of the current regime.
