Few days to the general elections, unknown gun men have reportedly set a campaign bus belonging Labour Party ablaze in Enugu state.
The incident which happened at Obollo-Afor, the headquarters of Udenu local government area of the state around 11am has once again heightened political tension in the area.
WITHIN NIGERIA source, Sunday Nnajiofor explained that ” it was around 11:30pm or thereabouts when the incident happened. The vehicle was parked near the campaign office of the party when some hoodlums on motorbike rode to the area and set the vehicle ablaze.”
According to Mr. Nnajiofor, the hoodlums were said to be shouting ” we say no election in the south East. Leave us alone. We don’t want your election.”
Enugu North Senatorial district has been enmeshed in political violence in the last one week.
On Monday, February 20, unknown gun men forcefully stopped a vehicle at Umuida Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North local government area of the state and shot two persons, setting the vehicle ablaze.
The Enugu-Ezike attack was said to be carried on vehicle conveying tomatoes and other items from Northern part of the country to the East.
However, when contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe couldn’t pick up his call for confirmation.
