On Saturday, gunmen suspected of being political thugs stormed a polling unit at the Green House, University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Enugu State, shooting sporadically to drive away voters during the presidential and National Assembly elections.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that gunmen stormed the university community just as voting was about to begin.
According to eyewitnesses, they began shooting sporadically, chasing voters as they fled the polling unit for safety.
According to multiple community sources, the gunmen destroyed the ballot papers and other electoral materials in the unit after they finished shooting.
Voting had not begun in the affected polling unit at the time of filing this report.
