Abia speaker loses House of Reps election to Labour Party candidate

The Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, has lost the house of representatives election for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, to Labour Party (LP) candidate, Obi Aguocha.

Orji, son of former Governor of Abia state, Theodore Ahamefule Orji, and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Returning Officer, Uma Oke, who announced the result on Monday, February 27, said the Labour Party candidate polled 48,199 votes to defeat Orji of the PDP, who scored 35,196.

Ogbonnaya Obilor of the All Progressive Congress, APC had 4,042 votes, while Ogbonna Abariukwu of APGA got 2,758.
