Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is leading his home state of Adamawa.
The election results collated so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yola, Adamawa capital, showed Mr Abubakar was costing home to victory.
Twelve out of the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Adamawa have been announced and Mr Abubabakar won in 11, leaving Labour with one LGA while the APC failed to garner traction.
Hudu Yunusa, Adamawa State Residential Electoral Commissioner (REC), who is currently overseeing the announcement, had said the announcement for election results would be announced as they come in from the LGAs.
Mr Yunusa said it was better to patiently await the arrival of the election results than join the bandwagons in spreading the “fake news” of an election that was yet to be announced.
“Please bear with us. It is better for news to be late than to be fake. This is my watchword. It is better that we have the news late than to fake it and throw it out to the public,” Mr Yunusa had told journalists who were at the INEC collation centre at No. 33, Galadima Aminu Way, Jimeta-Yola, as early as 10 am on Sunday.
The Gazette reported that heavily armed security officers of the Civil Defence, Nigerian Army, State Security Service, police, among others, were currently manning the collation centre as of the time of this report.
