Hilda Dokubo, a Nollywood actress, has been appointed acting chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party.
WITHIN NIGERIA learned that Dokubo was appointed as the new acting chairman in Rivers State in a statement signed by the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, on Thursday.
According to Abure, the appointment became necessary after the tenure of the former chairman, Dienye Pepple, expired and the caretaker committee was disbanded.
Earlier this week, Pepple and other party members declared their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Siminialayi Fubara.
This resulted in the immediate dissolution of the Rivers State branch of the party’s executive council.
Abure stated in the statement that the party’s state officials were fired for anti-party activities and corruption in the management of the party’s funds.
The national chairman of the Labour Party stated that the dissolution was necessary because the state chapter of the party had collapsed its structure in order to support the PDP’s Fubara in the state.
As a result, the party’s leadership in the state where the presidential mandate of the party’s flag bearer, Peter Obi, was openly stolen, should step aside until a full investigation into what happened during the last election is completed.
According to reports, the committee also includes Philip Loveday as secretary and Gogo Wellington as publicity secretary.
