The Presidential Transition Council has begun planning for the transfer of power from President Muhammadu Buhari to his successor, All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Bola Tinubu.
On Friday, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, confirmed that the council would ensure a smooth transition of governance for the incoming president during a joint briefing with officials from the Ministry of Defence and members of the Transition Technical Task Team (TTTT).
He also revealed that a roadmap had already been established for the next leader in order for his administration to get off to a quick start.
Kana revealed that the council would focus on the current administration’s nine priority areas, with security being one of them. He also mentioned that his ministry had formed a ministerial transition task force to oversee the transition.
The Presidential Transition Council, which was established on February 14 by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, is in charge of ensuring the security of the President-elect and Vice President-elect, coordinating post-election briefings on security issues, providing fully furnished offices and personnel for the President-elect and his/her transition team, and organizing the swearing-in ceremony.
In accordance with Executive Order No. 14 of 2023, Dr. Habiba Lawal, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, serves as Secretary of the Presidential Transition Council.
