Security operatives allegedly shot dead Ibrahim Nakuzama, a former councillor from Getso ward, for allegedly stealing ballot boxes.
Nakuzama was gunned down in Kano State’s Gwarzo local government area on Saturday during the governorship and state assembly candidate elections.
An associate of the deceased, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Daily Trust that he cannot reveal details about the incident because he is still recovering from the shock.
According to the platform, Nakuzama brought refreshments for agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) at his polling unit earlier in the day.
Those close to him said it was impossible for him to try to steal ballot boxes.
Nakuzama was survived by two wives and six children.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said he was not aware of the case but would investigate and report back.
The police had previously arrested three people, including the Managing Director of Kano Line, for alleged ballot snatching in the Gwammaja area of the state’s Dala LGA.
Several cases of ballot destruction were reported at various polling units in the state’s Rimin Gado Local Government Area.
