A yet-to-be-identified driver escaped death after crashing his truck along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Anambra State.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday while the driver was using the truck to convey foreign woods to a destination in the state when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
The impact of the crash which occurred opposite the Zim Zam Hotel, around Enugu-Agidi Junction, created a fire that engulfed the truck.
According to PUNCH, an eyewitness said the fire started around 2.29 pm, and it razed the truck and the goods worth millions of naira in the truck.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the crash were said to have alerted the state fire service to the incident.
The state fire chief, Martin Agbili, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said following a distress call, the agency deployed its fire-fighters and fire trucks to salvage the situation, adding that no casualty was recorded.
Agbili also said the driver of the truck lost control, adding that in the process, the truck crashed and got razed by fire.
The statement read, “Around 2.29pm on Sunday, the Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call of a fire outbreak at Enugu-Agidi Junction, opposite the Zim Zam Hotel along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on a 911 lorry carrying foreign woods.
“Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and fire-fighters to the scene for proper firefighting operation. The fire emanated during a road crash as the driver of the lorry lost control of the steering. There was no loss of life during the road crash and fire outbreak.”
