Griezmann set to retire from France after Mbappe is named new captain

Antoine Griezmann, France’s striker, is considering retiring from international football after head coach Didier Deschamps chose Kylian Mbappe as the team’s new captain.

After Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris stepped down from international duty, Les Bleus are without a captain.

According to L’Equipe, Deschamps has designated Mbappe as Lloris’ replacement.

This decision, however, has irritated Griezmann, who sees himself as a strong contender for the position.
The 32-year-old – has racked up 117 caps for his country since making his debut in 2014, scoring 42 goals.

Griezmann felt his international experience, along with his loyalty to Deschamps and the fact he would be a less divisive choice among the French squad meant he should have been chosen.
