Court sentences man to 7 years imprisonment for defiling 2-year-old girl

One Sani Muhammadu of Unguwan-Sarkin Ruwa Bangi area of Katcha in Katcha LGA of Niger state has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for defiling a two-year-old girl.

The 40-year-old man was convicted and sentenced by a Magistrates Court sitting in Minna, the North Central state capital

Fatima Kabir, the Magistrate, handed the sentence without the option of a fine after finding the suspect guilty of the offence.

Inspector Aliyu Yakubu, the prosecutor, had earlier told the court that one Zakari S. Ruwa reported at the Katcha Police Station on 28 January 2021, at about 4 pm, that at about 3 pm on the same day, the defendant lured his two-year-old daughter into his room and had sexual intercourse with her.

Yakubu noted that the defendant confessed to the crime during police interrogation. The offence was contrary to Section 18 (2) of the Child Rights Law of Niger State, 2010.
