One dies as police, hunters battle kidnappers in Ogun

A hunter Adebare Ramoni has been killed during a gun battle between a combined team of policemen and hunters to rescue an abducted couple inside a forest in Obafemi Owode Local Government of Ogun State.

Adebare, who was hit during a gun battle died while receiving treatment after he was rescued from the forest.

The incident occurred at Bisodun village at about 8 pm when the kidnappers invaded the community and kidnapped a couple Mr and Mrs. Ojo and were heralded into the forest.

The DPO Owode Egba division, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola, reportedly raced to the scene where he met the local hunters who have already mobilised to confront the kidnappers.

The policemen in conjunction with the hunters stormed the forest in search of the kidnappers and the victims but while combing the bush, the kidnappers suddenly opened fire on the rescue team.

Adebare was unfortunately hit by the bullet and abandoned by the kidnappers who ran for cover.

The victims and the injured hunter were quickly rescued and rushed to the hospital but the hunter gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

The State Police spokesman, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, said two suspects, Mohammed Bello and Mohammed Bashiru, were arrested the following day.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were sighted somewhere in the bush, prompting the Area commander Owode Egba, ACP Adeniyi Adedeji, to lead a team of policemen and hunters storm the bush and successfully apprehended two amongst the kidnappers.

He sad the two suspects have been identified by the victims as members of the gang that abducted them.
