While the battle for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly continues, some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have argued for a southern Christian Senate President.
Despite the fact that the APC has yet to zone the principal offices of the yet-to-be-inaugurated parliament, some senators, including Orji Uzor Kalu, Jibrin Barau, Sani Musa, Godswill Akpabio, Dave Umahi, Osita Izunaso, and Ahmad Lawan, have expressed interest in the position of Senate President.
Akin Alabi, the lawmaker representing the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency in Oyo State, has made a case for a Southern Christian to be elected Senate President.
With the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and his vice coming from the Muslim side, he believes it is only fair and expected that the southern part of the country produces the number three Christian.
On Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Alabi stated that the region received some of the highest votes during the election, so it was expected that they would receive something from the incoming 10th assembly as well.
