The minister of state for petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has resigned to seek the All Progressives Congress, APC ticket in the upcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State.
According to Reuters, 58-year-old Sylva tendered his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari last week, but the details of the resignation were kept private until now.
Buhari appointed Sylva to the ministry in 2019 but kept the position of petroleum minister to himself.
The former Bayelsa governor between 2008 to 2012 is now seeking the APC’s ticket to govern the oil-rich state for another term of four years.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Sylva’s friends purchased the N50 million APC nomination and expression of interest form for the former governor.
The Bayelsa State gubernatorial election will hold on November 11, 2023.
Spokespersons for Sylva and the State House did not immediately return requests seeking comments about the development late Thursday, People Gazette reports.
