Presidents Miguel Diaz-Canel of Cuba and Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, respectively, have congratulated the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his victory in the February 25th presidential election.
A statement by the media aide to Tinubu on Saturday, Tunde Rahman, said Diaz-Canel and Ortega’s congratulatory messages were conveyed in separate letters.
Rahman quoted the Cuban president as describing Tinubu’s victory as “a reaffirmation of the will to continue to strengthen the historic relations of friendship between the two countries.”
On the part of Nicaragua, the message signed by Ortega and Rosario’s Murillo, the country’s vice-president, gave its best wishes to Nigeria.
They said, “Our best wishes for peace and prosperity of Nigeria, while reiterating our unwavering commitment to continue strengthening the fraternal bonds of solidarity and brotherhood that unite our peoples and governments.”
Also, the Developing Eight Organisations for Economic Cooperation (D8), while congratulating Tinubu, said it looked forward to working with his administration.
The D8 secretary-general, Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, said, “Nigeria is a staunch member of the D8 Organisation. The country graciously hosts the D8 Health and Social Protection (D-8 HSP) in Abuja and is on track to host the D8 Centre for Small and Medium Enterprises.”
“Nigeria is also preparing to host the first D8 Private Sector-driven Energy Forum in Lagos in mid-2023.
