Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday called for live transmission of proceedings as part of the transparency required in the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
In a statement released to the media, Frank stated that live transmission would boost Nigerians’ confidence and reduce tensions across the country.
Apart from the ability to follow proceedings, he claims that it will give citizens a sense of belonging by keeping them informed of the progress or lack thereof of petition hearings as critical stakeholders.
According to the statement, live transmission of proceedings is now the global standard, with some African countries, such as Kenya, transmitting their presidential election petition proceedings live.
He called on the Tribunal to commence sitting urgently and accelerate the hearing to conclude before May 29, 2023.
He said: “We know as it stands, the All Progressives Congress is buying time with delay tactics to frustrate the case till after inauguration.
“This is geared towards allowing the APC to use incumbency powers to influence the judgement of the court.”
Timi said Nigerians believed in the integrity of Justices while calling on the jurors to put the citizens first.
He reminded the justices to heed calls by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to transmit proceedings live, which he said would mean they would be doing the case differently for the first time.
