In order to balance power distribution in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is considering zoning the Senate President’s office to the south-east.
This comes amid reports that former minister Godswill Akpabio may abandon his bid for Senate President.
There are indications that Akpabio may accept a ministerial position in President-elect Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Remember that during the APC’s presidential primary, Akpabio, who planned to run for president, stepped down in favor of Tinubu, who went on to win the party’s ticket.
According to Vanguard, sources who spoke with the platform revealed Akpabio’s intention to withdraw from the race because the APC decided to zone the Senate President’s office to the South East.
Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu; Jibrin Barau (Kano North), Sani Musa (Niger East), and Ali Ndume (Borno South), are among those who have declared their intention to run for Senate President.
Others on the list include former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West), former Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi (Ebonyi South), and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole. (Edo North).
A source who spoke with Vanguard on condition of anonymity said the party leadership would soon announce the zoning arrangements of all the presiding and principal offices both in the Senate and the House.
