Many students and visitors of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, escaped death when a speeding Toyota Venza car skidded off the varsity’s inner road and rammed into a tree.
It was gathered that the lone accident occurred on Tuesday about 100 metres away from the university’s new Senate Building.
According to The Nation, the driver, a 300-level student, however, came out of it unscathed.
The incident caused panic as the vehicle exploded immediately following the impact of the accident.
The situation forced people to scamper to safety, while other motorists attempted unsuccessfully to quench the fire with their extinguishers.
The university’s Director of Public Relations, Niyi Oduwole, could not be reached to comment on the incident, The Nation reports.
It was learnt that Oduwole was busy in respect of pressing arrangements over 107th inaugural lecture of the university to be delivered at 2pm by a Professor of Language Education, Sefiu Oladunjoye.
