Court registrar dies in bandits den

A court registrar in Niger state simply identified as Mallam Namaru has been reportedly killed by bandits.

Namaru, who was Registrar of Shari’a Court, Ibbi, in Mashegu LGAs of the middle belt state was killed two week after his abduction.

Not much is known about his killing but it’s gathered that the deceased was abducted alongside others on March 24, 2023 when the bandits raided their community.

The Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, has not issued a comment on the incident.

However, a resident of the area, Abdullahi Abubakar, told newsmen that the registrar and other abductees were shot dead due to pressure from security operatives to rescue them, adding that a vigilante member was also shot dead during the process.

He said effort was ongoing to retrieve the remains of those killed for burial and rescue those still alive, adding that Ibbi that was deemed safer and had sheltered fleeing internally displaced persons from other communities had, in the last two weeks, come under attacks.

It’s also gathered that bandits attacked Kasuwan-Garba in the same Local Government on Monday and kidnapped unspecified number of people.

A resident, Suleiman Mohammed, told Daily Trust that “The situation in our area is very scary. We live in fear every day because each time they strike, they must kidnap people.”
