Ondo: Tailor sentenced to 3 years in prison over assault

One Tajudeen Olajide has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for a man, Olamiposi Oluwatobi, in Ondo state.

The 41-year-old tailor was convicted and sentenced by an Ondo Magistrate Court on Thursday.

The convict who was found guilty of the one-count charge of assault was accused of punching Oluwatobi in the eye with a key.

According to the prosecutor, Sulaiman Abdulateef, the incident which occurred on December 10, 2021, within the Crown Hospital axis in Akure, the state capital, caused bodily harm to the victim.

The prosecutor further informed the court that Olajide committed the offence during a street fight.

Abdulateef added that the victim sustained an injury to the eye that resulted in total blindness.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The presiding magistrate, Tope Aladejana, found him guilty of the offence and subsequently sentenced him to three years imprisonment with the option of paying immediate damages of N700,000 to the victim.
