The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Alhasan Ado Doguwa, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, as the winner of the Doguwa and Tudunwada Federal Constituency election.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the Returning Officer, Professor Sani Ibrahim, announced the results of the recently concluded supplementary elections in Tudunwada local government’s eight wards.
According to an INEC official, Doguwa received the most votes (41,573).
Doguwa, who is reportedly running for Speaker of the House of Representatives, defeated Yushau Salisu of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with 34,831 votes.
Remember that the February 25th election in the constituency was declared inconclusive due to violence and overvoting.
Also, the Returning Officer for the election on February 25, Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, had reported that he announced the result under duress.
Yakasai had initially declared Doguwa the winner, but INEC subsequently voided the process.
Doguwa is currently facing charges of murder and arson. He is out on bail.
