Senator Aliyu Agatakarda Wamakko of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has defeated the incumbent deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, to retain his seat in the Senate.
Wamakko scored 141,468 to defeat Dan’iya of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 118,445 votes in the Sokoto-North senatorial supplementary election conducted on Saturday.
Recall that Wamakko was leading Dan’iya with over 10,000 votes before the election was declared inconclusive following some hitches recorded during the National Assembly elections in the state.
Wamakko, a two-term governor of the state has been in the Senate since 2015.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal won the Sokoto South Senatorial election after he scored 100,860 votes to defeat the incumbent lawmaker and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ibrahim Danbaba Dambuwa, who polled 95,884 votes.
