Dike Ikenna, one of the bricklayers from last Wednesday’s seven-storey building collapse in Banana Island, Lagos, has recounted how he escaped from the rubbles without any scratch.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the seven-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed on Wednesday, leaving many workers trapped.
Narrating the ordeal to Vanguard, Ikenna said: ” I thank God for his mercies. I usually anoint myself every day before going out to work, and this very day, I did likewise.
“I was on the 7th floor when It happened. I just said God, you didn’t tell me I will die this way or this was how I will end my life.
“While some of the victims were taken to hospitals due to the severity of their injuries and doctors pulling them out of the jaws of death, I thank God that I walked out of the rubbles without any scratch”.
This publication had reported how Timothy Omotosho, the site engineer and supervisor, of the seven-storey building escaped death from the seventh floor.
The site engineer said he was supervising the concrete casting on the seventh floor when the slab suddenly broke into two.
He said, “We were casting the seventh-floor slab. I was supervising the casting of the concrete. We were like 80 percent done; before I knew what was happening, a side of the slab broke into two. Some of my guys immediately started running down the stairs, but I didn’t know what to do. I was in shock. I was just standing there.
“The next thing, the building collapsed on me when I was still on the seventh floor and when I opened my eyes, I was on the ground floor. All I know is someone carried me and I found myself in a vehicle.”
