Child trafficking: Enugu Police arrest two female suspects, rescue two children

On Tuesday, the Enugu State Police Command announced the arrest of two members of a child trafficking syndicate and the rescue of two four-year-old children.

The Command said in a statement issued Tuesday by its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, that the two suspects, Miracle Orji (24) and Blessing Ani (34) were arrested on March 24, 2023, in different locations across the state by Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operatives.

He claims that the operatives busted the child stealing and trafficking syndicate after receiving credible information from the public.

According to him, “Preliminary investigation reveals that on 24/03/2023, Miracle Orji stole and was escaping with Ogechi Edeh, before she was intercepted and arrested with the assistance of citizens at Ameke-Oduma Community in Aninri Local Government Area.

“Her confessional statement led to the arrest of Blessing Ani around Shoprite Mall, Enugu, where she was waiting to receive and further traffic the child”.

He also noted that during interrogation of Blessing Ani, she confessed to have been involved in the act of child trafficking since 2017, and guided the operatives to Abuja, where the male victim, Destiny Okechukwu, who had been sold with fake documents and renamed Chibuike, was rescued.

While the Command’s spokesman said that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, he declared that the suspects would be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation.
