Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the embattled Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, has received his Certificate of Return for winning the Tudunwada Federal Constituency election.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Doguwa the winner of his constituency’s election last weekend.
Professor Sani Ibrahim, the State Returning Officer, confirmed Doguwa’s victory after collating results from the recently concluded supplementary elections held across eight wards in Tudunwada local government.
According to an INEC official, Doguwa received the most votes, totaling 41,573. Doguwa defeated New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate Yushau Salisu, who received 34,831 votes.
The electoral umpire presented Certificates of Return to Doguwa and other National Assembly members-elect from the April 18 supplementary elections today in Abuja.
Some lawmakers-elect praised INEC for a job well done, calling their victory a victory for democracy.
Doguwa, who ran and won on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, described his victory as exceptional.
Doguwa stated that he had witnessed many elections since 1992, but the 2023 election was exceptional.
We went through a lot of predicaments, name-calling and a lot of unusual things, but putting all things together, I want to say that we are grateful.
I am grateful to our people who once again gave me the mandate to continue to represent them in the business of legislation at the National Assembly, he said.
