Gunmen kill two immigration officers in Taraba

Gunmen have killed two immigration officers attached to a checkpoint along Takum/Ussa road in in Ussa Local Council Area of Taraba State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the incident gave the names of the murdered officers as Austin Adike and James Uzo.

Usman said apart from the gunshot injuries, the officers were as well cut with machete.

He said, “They were not only shot dead; there were also machete cuts all over their bodies.”

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that a staff of the Federal University, Wukari, Daniel Bala Benedict, was hacked to death by gunmen on his farm in Wukari Local Council of Taraba State.

According to the police, the remains of the Immigration officers have been deposited in the morgue, while the command is set to commence full-scale investigations into the killings.

The PPRO insisted that the tragedy had nothing to do with the ongoing upheaval between herders and farmers in the local council.

According to The Guardian, an officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity at the state command headquarters of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), urged the state and Federal Government not to leave any stone unturned in assisting the command to fish out those behind the dastardly act.

The senior officer added that the command would “indeed miss the two gallant officers.”

Ussa has, in the past weeks, been under security threat, a situation, which led to loss of lives and properties, as well as large displacement of persons.
