Vincent Kompany Shortlisted Among Chelsea’s Potential Managers

Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany, a former Manchester City defender who is now the manager of a Championship club, Burnley, has been named as one of the candidates to become Chelsea’s permanent manager.

Vincent Kompany, who recently earned promotion to the Premier League with Burnley, is said to be one of three managers Chelsea has shortlisted for the job at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has been looking for a permanent coach since sacking Graham Potter a few weeks ago. While the search continues, the club’s controlling owner, Todd Boehly, has appointed Frank Lampard, the club’s former player and coach, as caretaker coach until the end of the season.

Things have gotten worse since Lampard took over, with the English tactician suffering four defeats in his last four games in charge, including a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League. As a result, he has no chance of becoming the club’s permanent coach.

Chelsea has shortlisted Kompany, former Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino, and another manager who has not been named since he was ruled out.

Pochettino has already met with the West London club about the position. They have also met with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Naglesmann, but according to the BBC, the German coach is unlikely to be named the club’s coach.

As a result, Vincent Kompany, who began his managerial career with Belgian club Anderlecht in 2019-2022 and then moved to Burnley in 2022-2023, is now considered one of the frontrunners for the job.

Chelsea’s sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who are in charge of the recruitment process, are said to be impressed with his team’s attractive and offensive playing style.

However, there is no guarantee that the 37-year-old Belgian tactician will be named Chelsea’s coach ahead of other elite managers under consideration by the club.
