The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Yobe State has dismissed a report alleging that inmates were engaged in sexual activities due to weeks of blackout in the prison.

The command spokesperson, Haruna Isa, in a statement, said the allegation was false, and noted that it was intended to disrupt the peace and serenity in the command’s correctional facilities.

“There is no sexual activity going on in any of the correctional formations across the command. Obviously, the said malicious report was intended to mislead the general public,” Isa stated.

Isa added that the state controller of corrections is equally disturbed about the blackout in the centres and has already taken steps to address the situation.

He, however, urged the public to disregard the report, stating that it was false, unpatriotic, and malicious.
