Adamawa polls: Court orders release of PDP members in DSS custody

The Department of State Services, DSS, must release three Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members who are currently in its custody, per an order from the Adamawa State High Court.

The trio of Yusuf Mohammed, Zira John, and Solomon Abafras had been held by the DSS since April 16, 2023, after they allegedly rough-handled a DSS operative.

The case was later taken to court, and the three were granted release.

On Thursday, a State high court in Yola ordered the detainees’ immediate release.

The court, presided over by Justice Christopher Mapeo, ordering the DSS to release the applicants unconditionally, adjourned the matter to next week, May 3, for hearing of the motion on notice.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the three applicants who are supporters of the PDP candidate in the supplementary governorship election of April 15, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, were seized by the DSS after they allegedly attacked a DSS man on April 16, shortly after the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, illegally announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen Aishatu Ahmed Binani as winner of the election.
