Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has advised traditional rulers on how to protect themselves from governors in their respective states.
According to the former lawmaker, monarchs, like judges, require constitutional protection to be independent.
Sani argued on Twitter that without constitutional protection, Emirs, Obas, and other monarchs would be at the mercy of governors.
Sani proposed that monarchs have some degree of autonomy.
He wrote;
Until traditional rulers are constitutionally protected like Judges, they will continue to live at the mercy and pleasure of state Governors.
Remember that in 2020, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje deposed Kano Emir Lamido Sanusi for his constant criticism of the ruling government.
The Reason Buhari Approved the Census Postponement in 2023
Meanwhile, Sani has explained why President Muhammadu Buhari agreed to postpone the 2023 Population and Housing Census, which was previously scheduled for May 3-7, 2023.
WITHIN NIGERIA earlier reported that Buhari in a press statement signed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Saturday, officially approved the census postponement.
Mohammed disclosed that Buhari gave the approval after meeting with members of the Federal Executive Council and the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, and his team on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to the minister, President Buhari agreed that the incoming administration would determine a new date.
However, in a tweet on Saturday, Shehu Sani claimed that the federal government passed the buck to President-elect Bola Tinubu because it could not fund the census, which is expected to cost $1.8 billion.
He wrote;
The simple fact is that the FG doesn’t have $1.8 billion for the Census and now shifted the Wahala to Asiwaju.
