Why Buhari should release Nnamdi Kanu before his tenure expires – Ohanaeze president, Iwuanyanwu

The President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, before the end of his tenure.

Iwuanyanwu said Kanu should be released to allow him to tend to his deteriorating health.

Speaking in Enugu yesterday, the elder statesman said Nigerians would be happy if Kanu is released.

Iwuanyanwu said it would be difficult for the Southeast to negotiate any peace with the Federal Government while Kanu is detained.

According to Iwuanyawu: “It is also important to note that the judiciary has discharged and freed Nnamdi Kanu. It will be the joy of many Igbo people and Nigerians to see Kanu released from detention.

“There is also a report that his health is deteriorating. I feel it is important that he is released to have access to his medical doctors so that he does not die in prison.”

Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services, DSS, since he was arrested and repatriated to Nigeria from Kenya in 2022.
