Abducted Abuja chief regains freedom

Kidnappers who abducted village chief of the Chida community in Kwali Area Council of the FCT, Chief John Kwayidagami, have released him.

He was freed alongside his three children and nine of his subjects by their abductors after collecting N7m ransom.

Recall that the kidnappers on April 8, 2023, invaded Chida village, where they operated for over three hours and smoked hemp, before whisking away the village chief, three of his children and nine others into the bush.

A family member of one of the victims, Ishaya Musa, who confirmed the release of the village chief on Wednesday, said the chief, his three sons and nine subjects, were freed on Tuesday at a forest in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State.

“It was around 10:12pm on Tuesday that the chief, his three children and nine others all returned home after payment of N7 million ransom, along with foodstuffs and drugs,” he said.

He added that the families of each of those abducted had to raise N500,000 including the chief himself and his children.

There was no official response from the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, at the time of filing this report.
