Anti-party activities: NNPP expels Delta, Ogun chairmen

The New Nigeria People’s Party’s national council has removed Sunday Oginni Olaposi and Efe Tobor as the state chairs of Ogun and Delta, respectively.

Today in Abuja, Oginni, who has been at the center of issues including financial irregularities and other dubious behavior, especially after the state’s most recent gubernatorial elections, was ejected.

Dr. Agwo Major, the party’s national publicity secretary, said in a release that the expulsion came as a result of a meeting of the NNPP National Working Committee.

Dr Major said Oginni’s expulsion alongside his Delta State counterpart, Dr Efe Tobor, centred on anti-party activities, describing the development as disheartening.

He said Oginni was among members of the party who openly aligned with other parties in the last election.

“You will agree with me that no party worth its salt will condone such misdemeanour.

“Unfortunately, some states chairmen and their executives, apart from very loud anti-party activities were accused of a plethora of wrongdoings which negated their oath of office.

This prompted the National Working Committee to set up a Disciplinary Committee to investigate three states including Edo, Delta, and Ogun.”

Dr Major added that while the Edo State chairman appeared before the Disciplinary Committee, the Delta State chairman, Chief Efe Tobor and his Ogun State counterpart, Comrade Sunday Olappsi Ogini failed to appear on the two occasions they were invited.

“Consequently, the NWC met on Thursday, April 27, 2023, and came up with the following decisions:

“That both the Chairman NNPP in Delta State, Chief Efe Tobor and his Ogun State counterpart, Comrade Olaposi Sunday Ogini have been expelled from the party, with effect from Thursday, April 27, 2023.”

He added that the executives from the state, down to the Local Government and Ward levels in Delta and Ogun states have equally been dissolved effective Thursday, April 27, 2023.

According to him, “the expulsion of both Chief Efe Tobor and Comrade Sunday Olaposi Oginni will be taken to the National Executive Committee and the National Convention for ratification.

“Further development on these two states and others will be made public.”

It was gathered that whereas Oginni enjoyed tremendous goodwill and generous financial provision from the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Oginni failed in releasing resources to key members and structures of the party, leading to a woeful outing in the last elections.

A lot of the members have since been calling for his ouster, declaring openly that he betrayed the NNPP.

It was on grounds of the above that the party leadership swung into action expelling Oginni and his Delta counterpart.

On upcoming gubernatorial elections, Dr Major said the NNPP demands free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive and peaceful governorship elections.

He said the polls, coming up in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states were critical for sustainable democracy in Nigeria, and that the will and mandate of the people must be respected.

“The party urges INEC to provide a level playing field for all the political parties and their candidates participating in the elections, and ensure that every vote is counted in the overall results.

“This implies that the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System will function excellently, maximally and optimally.

“Nigerians will not tolerate any excuse for poor performance from INEC.

“We must get it right this time and redirect the ship of the nation to the path of rectitude, progress, development and advancement,” the party added
