Former Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, according to outgoing Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, will be the next president of the senate.
Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River, and Ganduje met on Thursday in the state capital of Calabar.
Ibrahim Gambari, the chief of staff for President Muhammadu Buhari, was also present.
Ganduje asserted that the choice to nominate Akpabio had already been made, but he omitted to say whether the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership had made the choice.
However, according to him, “we have resolved that”.
“The senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will come from the south-south and it is no other person than the former governor of Akwa Ibom.
“I am giving you assurance, we are waiting for the D-Day that he will be the senate president of Nigeria.”
The Upper Chamber will decide the next Senate President following the inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29.
