Lessons were learnt during 2023 elections — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that lessons were learned from the recently concluded general elections.

According to the President, the polls demonstrated that a government can be chosen peacefully and fairly.

In a statement, the presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, disclosed Buhari’s remarks from Friday at the Commonwealth leaders summit in London.

Bola Tinubu, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in power, was declared the victor on March 1 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and he is scheduled to take office on May 29.

Atiku Abubakar, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, a candidate for the Labour Party (LP), have both filed legal challenges against Tinubu’s victory.

“Despite some pockets of violence, we have demonstrated that a government can be elected peacefully and fairly.

“Lessons have been learned and moving forward, we hope to perform even better.

“Based on this, I am delighted to note that we have taken another step towards deepening our democracy with peaceful, transparent and credible outcomes,” Buhari said.
