Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, has provided the most recent update on midfielder Kevin de Bruyne’s fitness ahead of his team’s Champions League semi-final first-leg match against Real Madrid on May 9.
Guardiola confirmed that De Bruyne trained ahead of Manchester City’s match against Leeds United on Saturday (May 6), implying that the Belgium international will be available against Real Madrid.
Due to a bruised foot, De Bruyne missed Man City’s last two games against Fulham and West Ham United.
There have been concerns that De Bruyne will miss the game against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Guardiola, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leeds match, said: “He trained yesterday, he trained well.” Today, we train and then make a decision.
“Losing or missing just one week or ten days in this stage of the season is not a problem. The same happened with Nathan (Ake). If he’s fit, he can play.”
De Bruyne has been in sparkling form this season, scoring nine goals and providing an astounding 27 assists in 42 matches across competitions for Man City.
