All residents of the state will undergo blood group and genotype testing, according to a statement from the Abia State Ministry of Health.
In light of this, the ministry has issued a call for applications for the program from medical laboratories operating in the State that meet the necessary qualifications.
Dr. Joe Osuji, the state’s commissioner for health, personally signed a release announcing this development.
According to Osuji, the mass testing initiative complies with the requirements of Abia State of Nigeria Law No.5 of 2018, which mandates that all Abians must undergo blood group and genotype testing.
The Ministry of health also explained that applications from suitably qualified medical laboratories operating in the State was for the implementation of the Abia State Identification of Blood Group and Genotype Law.
The ministry added that successful laboratories would be selected as the government-approved laboratories for the mass test.
It said that expression of interest forms which would be obtained from the ministry would end on May 9, 2023.
