Imo: Kidnapped Lagos-based business man found dead, after paying N10m ransom

An Imo state  born business man who was kidnapped last month by unknown  persons have been found dead inside bush.

Ikechukwu Simeon Ebelebe who was based in Lagos was kidnapped in his hometown Owerre Akokwa, Ideato North local government area of Imo state on April 17 while coming home for Easter celebration.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that after much negotiation, his abductors collected a ransom of N10m.

However, unfortunately, his abductors went ahead and killed him.

Our reporter gathered that his remains was found inside the bush at Orumba South LGA, Anambra State.

Our source who preferred anonymity explained that “it happened that passer-by noticed a foul smell in the area and upon investigation, found a dead body which the police were contacted and confirmed that it was Ikechukwu’s body. His body was deposited in a mortuary.

“He was kidnapped in his hometown – Owerre-Akokwa in Ideato-North LGA of Imo State when he went home for village meeting.

“He was known to be a good man who owns a foundation named “Divine -Iyke Foundation for Humanity”, that cares for the elderly and the less privileged in the East.”

Another close friend of the deceased Chukwuebuka Ifeanyichukwu who spoke to WITHIN NIGERIA explained that as “I was discharged from the hospital, I got home to rest when my phone rang with a heartbreaking news that they have found his body lifeless.

“It was during Easter season he traveled to our home town Akokwa for your normal charitable and evangelical support. As usual  he has  many people he takes care of; Orphans, students under scholarships, widows, free medical services and many other good deeds he does for people in need.

“We waited for his return for weeks but no news only for him to be seen as a dead man; killed by his own tribesmen.

“I’m dumbfounded. I lack words to express my feelings.”

The Police  Public Relations Officer, Imo state police command, Henry Okoye could not confirm the incident as he didn’t pick his calls.
