Brazilian kickboxer Alex Pereira may not be able to fight Nigerian kickboxer Israel Adesanya again because he is unable to lose two pounds for UFC 287 (middleweight class).
Alex Pereira is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting athletes to watch in the UFC. He has won two kickboxing classes and is known for his brutal strength and aggressive fighting style.
However, after his most recent loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287, some have questioned whether he can remain active in the middleweight division.
In a recent interview, UFC president Dana White discussed Alex Pereira’s potential move to the light heavyweight division.
He said;
I think that Pereira probably moves to 205 after this fight. He’s a monster.
White’s remark came after Pereira’s futile attempt to lose two pounds for UFC 287, where he was defeated in the second round by Adesanya.
Pereira has always been a strong middleweight fighter, so his move to light heavyweight could be a watershed moment in his career. Going up to 205 pounds may be the answer to his problems, as he had difficulty dropping weight to 185 pounds.
According to Pereira’s trainer, Teixeira, the Brazilian may move up to the light heavyweight division in the future.
If Pereira moves up to light heavyweight, he may not be able to compete with Adesanya in the middleweight division in the near future.
Before their UFC 287 fight in 2023, Pereira had defeated Adesanya twice in kickboxing.
Following the fight, Adesanya advised Pereira to move up to light heavyweight and cause some problems there, but it remains to be seen whether the Brazilian will heed the advice.
