Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and social critic, has counselled Peter Obi, the Labour Party, LP candidate for president in the election scheduled for February 25, to avoid making excuses for the behaviour of his supporters.
Sani forewarned Obi that if he keeps criticising or apologising on their behalf, he risked killing what he called the “libido of his movement.”
On Thursday, he posted a message using his verified Twitter account that included his remarks.
Recall that the former Anambra State governor shouted out on Wednesday, claiming some now pose as Obidients to trash and disrespect famous figures in the country.
Asserting that his supporters—commonly referred to as “Obidients”—were not responsible for the insults hurled at notable Nigerians, Obi exonerated them, saying they were law-abiding individuals.
He also condemned the development, insisting it’s unacceptable.
However, Sani said Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari never apologized for what their supporters say or do.
He wrote, “Asiwaju, Atiku & Buhari never denounce or apologise for whatever their supporters say or do. Peter keeps apologising & dissociating. If you keep moving on this apologetic path, you will kill the libido of your movement. You sparked a fire, embrace the inferno with courage.”
