A marauding elephant attacked campers in central Sri Lanka on Friday, killing one and inflicting severe injury on another.
According to the police, the deceased was a 23-year-old woman, and the wounded a 22-year-old man.
The couple had come on a camping tour and set up near the Uda Diyaluma waterfall, according to the police.
The police said the wild elephant was there when police and residents of the area arrived following a distress call from the injured person.
Human-elephant conflict has been on the increase in Sri Lanka in recent years.
